Arlin Brannstrom, AAC

Arlin Brannstrom is a Faculty Associate in the Center for Dairy Profitability at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He has been an educator for 42 years and a member of ASFMRA for 44! In addition to teaching, Arlin has been the Secretary / Treasurer of the WI Chapter for 20+ years. Early in his career he worked as a farm manger and an appraiser. He holds a MS and MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin. Arlin served as the Academic VP of ASFMRA from 2006-2009.

Burgener

Paul Burgener, AFM Nebraska

Instructs: Ag Land Management 1, 2, & 3

Paul Burgener is a native of Powell, Wyoming, with a B.S. in Farm and Ranch Management from the University of Wyoming in 1990, followed by a M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the same school in 1992. He was raised on a 1,400 acre irrigated farm with a 1,000 head cattle backgrounding feedlot and a 125 ewe registered Columbia sheep flock. Crops on the farm included sugarbeets, pinto beans, malting barley, alfalfa hay and corn for silage. He was an Agriculture Instructor at Northwest College from 1994 through 1997 and an outside salesman at the Carquest Auto Parts store in 1997 and 1998, both in Powell, Wyoming. For the next 12 years, he was an Agricultural Economist at the University of Nebraska, Panhandle Research and Extension Center. His focus at the University of Nebraska was on grain markets, farmland leasing, cropping systems, and agriculture policy. He is currently in his second round with Platte Valley Bank, where he was an agriculture lender from March 2011 through October 2012 and returned to the position as an Assistant Vice President in December 2013. Paul spent a year as a Grain Market Analyst for Farm Futures Magazine from November 2012 to December 2013, writing and reporting on U.S. and world grain markets.

Paul and his wife Amy currently own 53 head of commercial cows that they run on shares with an area cattleman. The cow herd is currently in its third calving season with excellent success on the production side. Paul currently serves on Congressman Adrian Smith’s Ag Advisory Council and is an Accredited Farm Manager with the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. He is a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and the Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness Committee.

Capelle

Janet Capelle, ARA Ohio

Janet lives on a small farm in North Fairfield, OH with her husband Doug.

She became State Certified in 1993 working for Ag Credit ACA. She joined Kendall Appraisal Group in 2003 as an independent fee appraiser. In 2007 Janet formed Capelle Appraisal Service LLC and continues to perform fee appraisals of diversified farms including poultry, swine & dairy facilities across northern Ohio.

As a member of The American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, Janet has earned the designation of ARA, is Past District I Vice President on the Executive Council and is a past member of the National Ethics Committee

Arthur E. Clapp, ARA Massachusetts

Arthur E. Clapp, ARA, is a graduate of Stockbridge School of Agriculture and the University of Massachusetts. He has worked in or with agriculture and rural property for his entire professional career. He has been employed by the USDA/FmHA, the Farm Credit System, and AEtna Life and Casualty Companies. Clapp operated a fee-appraisal business from 1991 through 2006, specializing in valuation and consultation services for rural and agricultural properties throughout the U.S. He placed emphasis on Conservation Easement Valuation (particularly for the purchase/sale of development rights), intensive livestock businesses, resource properties, and cranberry valuation. Beginning in 2006 he was employed by the U.S. Government, first with the Department of the Interior and then the Department of Justice. Since retiring from Government service, Art has maintained his sanity by operating a small cropping operation on the family farm in Massachusetts and by consulting and serving as a forensic reviewer.
He has been active in the Society since joining and earned the Accredited Rural Appraiser (“ARA”) designation in 1985. Clapp has served as a chapter officer and has served nationally on the Appraisal Education Committee; Young Professionals Committee; the Ad Hoc Committee on Joint Education; the National Public Relations Committee; the Appraisal Summit Committee; the Uniform Agricultural Appraisal Report Committee; the Structure Ad Hoc Committee; the Strategic Planning Committee; the Financial Review Committee; the Alliance Team; and two terms on the ASFMRA Executive Council. He served as one of three members of the coordinating committee for VALUATION 2000 and was one of ASFMRA’s five representatives on the Alliance Team (includes AI, ASA, and ASFMRA representation); Art chaired this team from its formation to 2006. He served two terms on the Board of Trustees of The Appraisal Foundation.

Art has been instructing ASFMRA courses and seminars since 1985.

Ken Daw, RPRA Wisconsin

Kenneth is a State-Certified General Appraiser with 29 years of appraisal experience and has earned the RPRA designation from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) and the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute. His experience includes working as a private sector commercial fee appraiser in Central Florida and as a government review appraiser for State and Federal government agencies. Kenneth joined the Office of Valuation Services in 2011 as the Quality Assurance Officer and is now the Chief of the Valuation Systems Division. Kenneth has provided valuation services in most states and is an instructor for the ASFMRA for Appraisal Review and the Uniform Appraisal Standards for Federal Land Acquisitions courses. He enjoys spending time with his wife Jane and family camping, hiking, and other types of outdoor recreation.

Chris is self employed as a review appraiser and is retired after over 36 years of service with the Federal Government. Chris held various positions within the government including National Appraiser for USDA/NRCS. The primary focus of this position is development and implementation of the real estate appraisal process, acquisition and approval of real estate appraisals for use in purchasing conservation easements around the country for five different easement programs for the Agency. Prior to this he was employed by USDA/FSA, Farm Service Agency as Chief Appraiser in Washington, DC from March 1996 to April 2005 establishing policy and direction for appraisals used in loan making and loan servicing decisions nationwide and in various positions in Colorado with Farmers Home Administration including Farm Loan Chief and Senior Appraiser.
Chris was born and raised around Ft. Collins, CO on an irrigated farm and livestock operation and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Colorado State University. He received his Real Property Review Appraiser designation in 1993 and his Accredited Rural Appraiser designation in 1994 from American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. He is a Certified Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice Instructor, State Certified General Appraiser in Colorado, teaches several appraisal courses for ASFMRA and served 6 years as an Appraiser Qualifications Board Member in 2000 -2006.
Chris and his wife Connie live in Greeley, Colorado and have three daughters, one grandson and one granddaughter who all live in Colorado.

Randall Kyles, ARA Alabama

Randall Kyles, ARA, is a native of Southeast Alabama and is a State Certified General Real Property Appraiser in Alabama. He is a graduate of Troy State University with a B.S. in Finance. He is currently a Principle Appraiser with First South Farm Credit and has held that position since 2003. His work experience includes poultry, timber, recreation, rural residential and various agriculture properties. He joined the ASFMRA in 2004 and received his ARA designation in 2009. He has served in multiple roles in the Alabama ASFMRA Chapter, including the current role of President.

Dave NebelDave Nebel, ARA

Dave Nebel began appraising real estate in 1999. In 2006 Dave joined Hertz Farm Management as an appraiser and now serves as president of Hertz Appraisal Services. Hertz Appraisal Services specializes in agricultural and recreational appraisals in Iowa and Illinois, with a focus on estates and family farms. Dave’s appraisal experience includes large multi tract farmland appraisals, rock quarries, sand and gravel pits, recreational land, conservation easements, wind rights, and Yellow Book assignments. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business from William Penn University and currently holds the ARA and MAI designations.

Upon graduating from Purdue University in 1983 majoring in Management: Business and Farm, Mark began his career with Travelers Insurance Company in loan underwriting, farm management, and appraising in Illinois, with occasional assignments in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. In 1987, he transferred to Colorado where he performed the same duties in Colorado and New Mexico, eventually receiving responsibility for Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. His responsibilities included appraising ranches and irrigated and dry farm properties as well as the management of several farms and ranches. While in Colorado, he coordinated and successfully completed a large auction of several farms as well as a ranch stock water improvement project in conjunction with the local ASCS office. In 1989, he transferred to California where he assumed responsibility for the management of several irrigated farms and permanent plantings, including almonds, vineyards, and citrus. He also started to develop a portfolio of loans secured by property in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
In 2005, Mark started the Hartford AgriFinance unit in California for the purpose of agricultural loan origination and reviewing properties for possible investments. During his employment at Travelers/Citigroup and the Hartford, Mark originated over $1.5 Billion in agricultural real estate loans on irrigated and dry farmland, permanent plantings (nuts, citrus, vineyards, and berries), ranches, dairies, wineries, and processing facilities (e.g. tomato paste, nut, etc.). These loans included several permanent planting development loans, with the loans converting to long-term financing upon the completion of the development. Mark has originated agricultural loans in Delaware, Maryland, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, and California.
Mark started Kefa Capital, Inc. in 2009, with emphasis on loan and real estate brokerage, farm management, and consulting. His 30 years of experience of providing various services to different types of agricultural operations across the United States makes Kefa Capital, Inc. uniquely positioned to add value to large and small operations as well as pension and investment fund managers.
Mark received his Accredited Rural Appraiser designation in 1994 and his Accredited Farm Manager and Accredited Agricultural Consultant designations in 2013. He was a member of the California Chapter team that developed Best Appraisal Practices for Agricultural Properties and was responsible for editing the course to its final edition. He has held various board positions at the California Chapter and National levels and was the District VII Appraisal Experience Chair for several years. He was President of the California Chapter President for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. He currently sits on the Management/Consulting Education/Accrediting Committee.
Mark resides in Clovis, California with Sally, his wife of 30 years. They have a 28 year old daughter, Maggie, a UC Irvine graduate and sixth grade teacher, married and a mother of one, 26 year old son, Jonathan, a UC Davis graduate and cross country (All American) and track & field standout while at UC Davis and currently runs for USA Team Minnesota, and 24 year old son, Michael, also a UC Davis track & field standout in pole vault and currently a sailor in the U.S. Navy.
Mark’s hobbies and outside activities include woodworking, playing guitar in his church choir, President of the Central Section Unit of the California Track Starters Association, and is an USA Track & Field National Official.

Corey Prins is an AFM (Accredited Farm Manager) and CCA (Certified Crop Adviser) from Northwestern Farm Management Company in Marshall, MN. Corey received his Bachelors of Science degree in Agribusiness and Agronomy minor from South Dakota State University. Corey worked 7 years as an area seed sales manager before beginning his career as a farm manager.
Corey and his wife, Cindy, have three children: Kianna, Kaylee, and Carter.
Corey is a Certified Crop Advisor and served as Minnesota’s ASFMRA Chapter Management Education Chair from 2008 – 2011. Corey served on the ASFMRA Ethics Committee for one year, has served on the Management Education Committee since 2008, and started instructing Management Education in 2010. In his local community Corey is a member of Rotary International, served on Church Council, teaches Sunday School and Wednesday night Youth Group, referees Jr. High Basketball and serves as School Board Chairman at the school his children attend! In his spare time Corey enjoys running, spending time with his family, helping his dad on the farm or just spending time outdoors!

Skye works as a Vice President for Westchester Group, as TIAA Company. He is responsible for the management of the existing row crop portfolio in the Western United States as well as identifying, analyzing, acquiring, and managing additional row crop properties throughout the West. Prior to Westchester, he worked throughout the United States as a water rights consultant for a leading advisory firm in the water rights industry. Skye received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Brigham Young University and has Master’s Degrees in Public Policy and Business Administration from Oregon State University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Accredited Farm Manager (AFM) and Accredited Agricultural Consultant (AAC). He is also a licensed real estate broker in Idaho, Washington and Oregon. In his spare time, he enjoys teaching and farming. In addition to teaching for the ASFMRA, he consistently teaches economics and personal finance at the university level. Skye grew up on a large organic alfalfa and cow-calf operation in Burns, Oregon and along with his wife, Becca, and their four children, still runs cattle with his parents and helps when he can on the family operation. Skye serves on many boards and committees within the ASFMRA and on behalf of other community organizations.

Conservation Easements Valuation Scott graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. Degree in Agricultural Economics. Mr. Seely is co-owner of Lewis & Seely Appraisals, Inc., and has worked for the State of Texas, General Land Office. His appraisal experience includes farms, ranches, and rural homesites for Veteran's Land Board Program. He has been a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) since 1979 and received his ARA designation in 1979. Mr. Seely is currently serving on the Text Book/Review and Appraisal Education committees of the ASFMRA. He has chaired the Appraisal Review and Education Reciprocity Committees as well as the Appraisal Education Committee and the Accrediting Committee. He has also served on the Executive Council as District V Vice President.

Brent Stanger-1024Brent Stanger, ARA

Brent Stanger, ARA, is based in Twin Falls, Idaho. He is a Certified General Appraiser in the States of Idaho and Nevada and has been actively involved in the appraisal profession since 1992. He is also a licensed Real Estate Agent in the State of Idaho.

Brent’s appraisal experience includes a wide array of property types in Idaho and Nevada. He has a great deal of experience in appraising large commercial irrigated farm properties, livestock ranch operations and recreational ranch properties. His appraisal practice has also included considerable appraisal work with eminent domain and condemnation proceedings, commercial properties, yellow book work and some agriculturally based specialized facilities.

Brent joined ASFMRA in 1995. He received the Accredited Rural Appraiser, ARA, designation in 1999. He served two years on National Accreditation Committee and six years on the Appraisal Education and Accrediting Committee with two of those years as the Committee Chairman. He has served as an instructor since 2005 for many of the ASFMRA appraisal courses and has participated in the development and review of much of the latest Appraisal curriculum.

In 2013, Brent received the HE Buck Stalcup Excellence in Education award from the ASFMRA. Brent joined the Farmers National Company team in September 2016 to assist FNC in expanding their services into the Pacific Northwest Region. Farm Management will be a large portion of his duties with FNC and as such, he is now also pursuing the AFM designation. Brent has resided Twin Falls, Idaho with his wife and two children since 1992.

RebeccaStone-1024Rebecca Stone, ARA

Rebecca Stone, ARA is a Certified General Appraiser from Cooperstown, NY. After graduating from the State University of New York at Cobleskill with a bachelor’s degree in dairy science, Rebecca won many awards as a loan officer at the USDA, Farm Service Agency (formerly Farmers Home Administration) in 1991 working with both housing and farm loans. In 1999, Rebecca converted to an Appraiser/Farm Loan Specialist at USDA, Farm Service Agency (FSA) in New York responsible for both reviewing and completing appraisals, in addition to loan underwriting, and training staff in GIS and GPS. In 2006, Rebecca became the Chief Appraiser for USDA, FSA in Washington, DC, but soon moved over to Farm Credit East, ACA where she turned out to be one of the top five appraisal income generators in the ACA. In 2011, Rebecca was promoted to Regional Appraiser acting as a resource for staff appraisers, along with providing training for appraisal and lending staff, administrative appraisal reviews, and developing policy. Rebecca earned her Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers in 2014, after which she was promoted to Vice President at Farm Credit East, ACA.

Rebecca specializes in dairy appraisals, especially large complex dairies. She also appraises a variety of other properties including commercial agricultural buildings, equipment dealerships, horse farms, rural residences, orchards, onion and vegetable farms, hobby/ part-time farms and a few beverage industry properties (wineries, distilleries, breweries).

Rebecca is co-owner with her husband, Jason, of their Cooperstown based floral and event designing company, Botanica, and has two children, Rachel and Jonathan. Rebecca is also very active in the community being 4H leader, Otsego County Dairy Princess Chairperson, member of the Farmers Museum Junior Livestock show committee, Trep$ (youth entrepreneurial program) Instructor, member of the 4H dairy science action issues committee, a member of the 4H dog science committee, and volunteering at the Dairy Cow Birth Center at the New York State Fair. In addition, she is an adjunct professor at the State University of New York at Cobleskill, where she teaches Farm Appraisal.

JoAnn Wall, ARA has specialized in agricultural and rural property appraising since 1998. Following nearly 10 years employed in the Farm Credit system as a staff appraiser in the Salinas office, she worked for several years as a fee appraiser in San Luis Obispo before starting her own appraisal firm, Central Coast AgAppraisal, Inc. (CCAA) in late 2009. In 2015, she sold her business to Contour Valuation Services, a national valuation company specializing in agricultural real estate appraisal throughout the United States and served as the Regional Vice President of the West Coast offices for a year. Starting in 2016, JoAnn has embarked on another appraisal adventure, owning her own company once again, continuing to provide high quality appraisals for a wide-range of clients. While lender clients continue to be her focus, she has a strong presence in the investment market including pre-acquisition due diligence, consultation, financial reporting, and asset allocation work. Her appraisal work includes a variety of use types including irrigated farmland, vineyards, wineries, cattle ranches, orchards, greenhouses/nursery operations, vegetable processing and cooler facilities, general industrial properties, and rural residential estates. JoAnn Wall, ARA has performed complex agricultural appraisal assignments throughout the Central Coast of California. In 2011, JoAnn was named one of the Top 50 Women in Business by the Pacific Times Business News. JoAnn’s extensive experience and knowledge provides a basis for educational instruction to other appraisers, including Introduction to Vineyard and Winery Valuation, a class she developed and teaches for the ASFMRA. Other courses include Introduction to Commercial Greenhouse Valuation, Appraisal Principals and Procedures, Integrated Approaches, and Advanced Rural Case Studies. Dan Whisenhunt, MBA, AAC California

Raised in Northern California, Dan’s exposure to agriculture was limited to his parent’s small farm and his friend’s almond orchard until his immersion into agriculture in 1997, when he entered the almond industry. Currently, Dan is the President and CEO at Agcom LLC, part of a diversified multinational organization involved in garment manufacturing, logistics, menthol production and tree nut trade and production, while also serving as the Principal at Dan Whisenhunt Consulting, in Turlock, California. Previously, he was responsible for grower relations (guiding the organization to a 25% increase in acreage under contract), as well as over 200 million dollars in international sales annually and the administration of all logistics for domestic and international shipments for a notable almond packer. Prior to being recruited to that position, Dan was President-International Division for a global agricultural marketer/exporter. There he started and was responsible for more than 100 million dollars in annual international sales. He was also responsible for the division’s logistics operations.
In 1998 he was recruited as Director of Sales and Marketing at a mid-size almond packer and exporter, where he was responsible for all domestic and international sales, credit, collections, marketing and positioning of the Company to both growers in California and buyers of almonds around the world. He was directly responsible for a four-fold growth of the company during his tenure. Dan’s background also includes the fields of human resources and financial services, business development and training. Dan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with concentrations in Marketing and Business Education from California State University, Sacramento and a recent MBA from California State University, Stanislaus. Dan has been a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers for over fifteen years. He attained the AAC designation (Accredited Agricultural Consultant) in 2012. He is on the Board of Directors of the California Chapter, as well as serving as the Chair of the FARMit Education Committee (farm management) and is a member of the Farm Management / Ag Consulting Education Committee on the national level of ASFMRA. Dan, after years of study in the subject, has obtained the designation of CPT (Certified Personality Trainer). This allows Dan to coach individuals and teams in the study of the personalities to increase production and cooperation. Balancing work and family, he also finds time to be active in other local organizations. Dan has been married to his wife, Denise since 1989 and has two children.

Mark A. Williams is owner and Vice President of Williams & Associates Inc. He is a Michigan native, growing up on a family dairy/cash crop farm in the "thumb" of Michigan. Mark established his appraisal practice in 1994 and obtained the Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA) designation in 2008. Williams & Associates, aka "Value Midwest", specializes in the valuation of commercial, agricultural specialty properties throughout the Midwest. In addition, Mark has extensive knowledge and experience with market analyses, eminent domain, conservation easements, and partial taking appraisals. Mark is also a qualified reviewer for Yellow Book and Eminent Domain appraisals. He enjoys the challenge and adventure of appraising unique properties throughout the United States. In the past 10 years he has completed projects in 31 different states. Past and current clients include United States Forest Service, Department of Interior, National Parks Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Natural Resources Conservation Service in addition to many local and regional lending institutions.
