Bio

Lee B. Smith graduated from California State Polytechnic University in 1966 with a degree in Farm Management. While at Cal Poly he was the Regional NIRA bareback and bull riding champion and qualified for the NIRA Finals for four years. He also qualified for the California Cowboys Association Finals and was a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. After graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force, received the Commendation Metal and was discharged as a captain. After his discharge he began his appraisal career with the Federal Land Bank of Berkley and then moved to the Federal Land Bank of Nevada where he had unlimited appraisal and loan authority. After seven years with the Land Bank he worked for an independent appraiser receiving his MAI designation in 1982. He then opened his own firm and received his ARA designation in 1988. He has appraised agriculture, recreation, urban fringe, commercial, industrial, residential, special use properties and water rights. He has served on the Appraisal Institutes curriculum committee and has been an American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers and Appraisal Institute course developer and instructor. He developed the Eminent Domain (A-250) course, Co-developed the Advanced Case Studies (A-400) course, developed the Ranch Appraisal Seminar and most recently developed the Water Rights Seminar. Mr. Smith was a contributor to the 10th through the 13th Editions of the Appraisal Institutes The Appraisal of Real Estate, and the 2nd Edition of the Appraisal Institute and American Society of Farm Managers Rural Appraisers The Appraisal of Rural Property. Mr. Smiths community involvement included 43 years as an Rotarian receiving a Paul Harris Fellow and serving as President of the Reno South Rotary Club. Mr. Smith has continued his western lifestyle with a cattle and horse ranch in Nevada, training and showing reined cow and cutting horses and participating in team roping. Tracy, his wife of 53 years has accompanied him on this journey. They have one son, a television producer, and a grandson.
