Bonnie Downing grew up on a family farm/feedlot northeast of Grand Island near Palmer Nebraska. I was the third generation on this family operation and the second oldest of four children. Her father continues to run this operation. During high school, she was active in basketball, track, FHA, swing choir and music. She was also the Senior Class Treasurer, a Student Council Representative and a member of the National Honor Society. Bonnie was active for 10 years in the Nance County Program 4-H and showed market beef, horses and sheep along with numerous other projects.
Bonnie attended Chadron State College on a full ride academic Regents scholarship and graduated in 1988 with a Bachelors degree in Business Management, Marketing and Banking. She completed a summer internship at Adams Bank in Chadron her senior year.
In 1988, she married Tim Downing whom she met while attending Chadron State College. They currently live on their cow/calf ranch near Dunning, NE with our two children. Taylor, their daughter, is attending the University of South Dakota majoring in Business and working on her MBA. Brett, their son, is attending Central Community College in Columbus, NE, and playing golf for the CCC Raiders. His plans obtain his animal science degree and someday return home to the family ranch.
Prior to joining the appraisal and sales team at Agri Affiliates Inc, in North Platte, Nebraska, Bonnie worked for Farm Credit Services of America from 2008-2021, Bonnie held several other career positions in banking, marketing and appraisal work. In 2003, Bonnie began her appraisal path and started attending ASFMRA education classes to become General Certified. Ron Roberts from H-D Management Company was her mentor. She became General Certified in 2006 and then worked to obtain her ARA designation in 2011. She has been a member of the ASFMRA and the Nebraska Chapter for fourteen years. She is a Past President of the Nebraska Chapter and has been active on several committees including the Membership Review, Legislative Review Committee, Nominating Committee, various winter and summer planning committees, and is the past co-chair of the Education Committee. Bonnie is serving a five year term on the Nebraska Real Property Appraiser Board.
Some of Bonnies fondest memories with the ASFMRA is the 2011 Annual meeting in Phoenix when she received her ARA designation. She was proud to be the first female ARA in the State of Nebraska. She is honored to be a part of this professional organization and enjoys the friendship has made through the Society. She is proud of her country roots and enjoys working with agricultural producers daily.
