Heather Placer Mull, ARA, MAI, SRA, CCIM, ASA is president and founder of Placer Realty Advisors, a commercial appraisal firm based in Richmond. She is also an associate broker with Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville, specializing in commercial brokerage. Heather started her career as a residential appraiser, converting to commercial real estate 15 years ago, mostly in the Richmond, Virginia region. In 2010 she earned the MAI and SRA designations from the Appraisal Institute. As an appraiser, she has specialized in various forms of retail, office, land, multifamily, and specialty use properties. She has also performed market commercial rent analysis, marketability and feasibility studies, and various consulting assignments. To date, she has completed over 1,500 commercial appraisals and over 4,000 residential appraisals. She recently also earned her ASA-RP accreditation for real property valuation from the American Society of Appraisers.
In 2017 she Heather earned the CCIM, Certified Commercial Investment Manager designation from the CCIM Institute. She went on to become the 2020 President of the CCIM Mid Atlantic Chapter and currently serves as Regional Vice President. Heather has extensive experience in commercial leasing and sales including retail, office, industrial, multifamily, and special use commercial properties. Heather holds a masters degree in Real Estate Valuation from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master's in Business Administration from Old Dominion University. She has taught various classes in the real estate department at VCU as an adjunct faculty member. Her education also includes extensive classes from the Appraisal Institute in various income valuation areas, litigation, going concern, and specialized topics. Heather serves on the several boards; she currently sits on the Appraisal Institute National Board of Directors, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) Commercial Economic Forum Chair, and the CCIM Networking Subcommittee Chair. Other positions are numerous but include the NAR Federal Commercial Policy Committee and is Chairwoman of the Virginia Association of Realtors (VAR) Economic Advisory Board. Most recently Heather was appointed by the governor to the Virginia Real Estate Appraiser Board. She has done several speaking engagements including speaking at the NAR 2019 Conference in San Francisco. In her spare time, Heather enjoys volunteering with the SPCA and anything involving animals. Her and her husband Ryder Mull (also an agent with SRMF) enjoy travelling and spending time with their newly blended family.
