Rebecca Stone, ARA is a Certified General Appraiser from Cooperstown, NY. She works for Farm Credit East in the Watertown and Sangerfield offices. Rebecca grew up on a small dairy farm in the Catskill foothills of NY State (Walton, NY) on a family farm, where she participated in 4H showing dairy cows, was on the NYS dairy judging team that went to the All American judging competition in Harrisburg, PA. She was Delaware County Dairy Princess in 1989. She graduated from the State University of New York at Cobleskill with an AAS degree in Dairy Production and Management in 1992 and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Dairy Science in 1994.
Rebecca started her career at the USDA, Farm Service Agency (formerly Farmers Home Administration) in 1991 as a student trainee loan officer. After she graduated college, she became a loan office working with both housing and farm loans, receiving awards for reducing delinquency, extra effort in public relations, customer service and for superior performance. In 1999, Rebecca started her appraisal training and became an Appraiser/Farm Loan Specialist at USDA, Farm Service Agency in NY. She was responsible for reviewing and completing appraisals in addition to loan underwriting and GIS and GPS training for staff. In 2006, Rebecca became the Chief Appraiser in Washington DC for USDA, FSA. Rebecca soon realized that working in Washington DC and writing policy was not for her, so she began her career at Farm Credit East in late 2006. Since working with Farm Credit East, she has earned several awards for having the most new appraisal income and is also one of the top 5 appraisal income generating employees. She has completed appraisals for individuals, entities, businesses, lenders, Ducks Unlimited, Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust, the US Army and USDA. In 2011, Rebecca was promoted to Regional Appraiser where she is a resource for staff appraisers, along with training for appraisal and lending staff, administrative appraisal reviews and writing of policy. After earning her ARA early this year, Rebecca has recently been promoted and given the title of Vice President. Rebecca specializes in dairy appraisals, especially large dairy, recently appraising 2 of the largest dairies in NYS. She has also completed appraisals on wineries, distilleries, commercial buildings, equipment dealerships, horse farms, rural residences, onion and vegetable farms, hobby and part-time farms and a variety of other properties.
Rebecca is married to Jason Stone and has two children, Rachel and Jonathan and is Co-Owner of Botanica with her husband Jason. Botanica is a small greenhouse/specialty florist that specializes in rental of live topiaries for wedding, parties and special events. Jason and Rebecca maintain a year round greenhouse to continually grow and expand their collection of topiaries, in addition to using fresh cut flowers, authentic containers, sculptural iron work and candles to accent the topiaries. They have owned and operated this business since 2002.
Rebecca is also very active in the community being a youth recreational soccer coach, 4h leader, Otsego County Dairy Princess Booking Chairperson, member of the Farmers Museum Junior Livestock show committee, Trep$ (youth entrepreneurial program) Instructor, member of the dairy science action issues committee and volunteering at the NYS Dairy Cow Birth Center at the New York State Fair.
Rebecca has always loved agriculture and believes that educating the public on all agriculture is a good thing. The better the understanding the public has the more they will support agriculture. She love appraising farms as there is always something new going on and the technology of Agribusinesses always is changing keeping life interesting.
