Course DescriptionThe installation of drain tile has become an expanded practice across the country and drainage tile has been an agricultural practice for many years. However, the use of tile has expanded to further enhance production and water management. Drain tile installation brings up appraisal questions relating to the cost of installation and its contributory value to the land. It also raises questions about changes in production on the land, and changes in land use from wetlands and/or grass to cropland.
This seminar will briefly examine the legally permissible issues such as permits and drainage law as well as the physical aspects in terms of where drain tile systems and designs can be installed and what types of materials are used. Financial feasibility will be explored including total cost and return on the investment, as well as production increases and sales of properties with and without drainage tile.
