Economic conditions in U.S. agriculture have been highly variable in recent years amid significant uncertainty about the national and global economy. Despite that variability, the U.S. economy has continued to grow at a moderate pace and interest rates have edged lower over the past three years. Against this backdrop, this session examines the outlook for the U.S. agricultural economy, and how those forces are connected to Federal Reserve decisions on interest rates through monetary policy. Nate Kauffman is Senior Vice President and Omaha Branch Executive at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In addition, Nate serves as Executive Director of the Bank's Center for Agriculture and the Economy. He is a leading voice on agricultural economy throughout the seven states of the Tenth Federal Reserve District and the broader Federal Reserve System.
