Emily_Oberbroeckling_Headshot.pngFor this member spotlight, we're sharing a highlight on Emily Oberbroeckling from the Iowa Chapter of the ASFMRA. Emily serves as a Chapter Director and head of the YPN Committee in Iowa.

Describe your experience and education related to the property professional field.

I graduated from University of Wisconsin- Platteville with a B.S. in Agricultural Business in 2009. I started my career as a lender at a community bank in Northeast Iowa. In 2012, a Real Estate and Chattel appraiser position opened with FCSA in Decorah, Iowa and I took the career leap into the appraisal world. I took appraisal classes through ASFMRA, Appraisal Institute and McKissock and received my Certified General license in 2016. I have appraised numerous croplands, recreational and improved agricultural properties across the Northeast Iowa (and greater) area. I am now employed by Peoples Company (July 2021).

Describe what led you to become a chapter member of the Iowa ASFMRA Chapter and why you remain a member.

I joined the Iowa ASFMRA chapter in 2013. I have served on the YPN and scholarship committees. I now serve as one of the directors. The education and networking have been excellent over my young career.

Describe personal background items that would be of interest to fellow chapter members.

I was raised on a family dairy farm in Northeast Iowa and was active in 4-H & FFA. My husband and I now live on his family farm near Garnavillo, Iowa. We grow corn and soybeans and custom feed hogs for a local integrator (with other family members). We also own and operate a trucking business and haul various ag commodities! I maintain an active role on the farm and support the ‘gophering’ in the spring and fall, along with driving tractor and grain cart in the fall. We also have two boys, Levi (6) and Max(4), that love to help with anything to do with farming and trucking! Occasionally, you will find me taking pictures, flying my drone, exploring local nature trails or reading a good book.

Describe a couple memorable or unique experiences in your life.

I have enjoy traveling and learning new ‘Agri’ cultures and traditions. I really enjoyed a trip to Germany/ Austria in 2018 and the Pacific Northwest in 2019. If there is a trip with beautiful open scenery and good food/ drinks- I’m in!

Anything else you would like to share?

I believe every farm has a story and I am grateful to be an appraiser to learn and help tell it to those who will listen.
