Good news ahead on the farm labor front

Strong odds for immigration reform in ’13… an overhaul that will make it easier for ag businesses to hire farmworkers without fear of violating the law. Democrats will team with moderate Republicans to pass the legislation in the second half of the year. President Obama will happily sign the reform package. Copyright 2012. California Chapter Plans a Busy Start to 2013…

The California Chapter has a busy start planned to ring in the New Year. In January, more than twenty-five individuals are expected to participate in an accelerated AFM/AAC program in Fresno that will satisfy the Ag Land Management education requirements for designation. The program will result in a number of new members for ASFMRA in addition to a large group of newly designated professionals over the next couple of years. In February, the chapter will hold its 2013 Education Week in Modesto, offering four days of continuing education. Courses will include Cost Estimating, Cost Approach, Best Practices and Succession and Estate Planning. In March, Outlook 2013 (formerly the Spring Ag Outlook Conference) will be held in Sacramento and will coincide with the release of the chapter’s widely recognized Trends in Agricultural Land & Lease Values publication. The theme of this year’s conference is “Are We Having Fun Yet? California Agriculture Success Stories.”  The chapter is also working on a New Water & Irrigation District Map that is targeted for release in the spring. Program dates, details and registration information will all be available at
