Q: Where are you from?

A: Home to me is Newton Grove, a small town in Eastern North Carolina. My wife, Kayla, and our two children still reside in my hometown in order to be close to our family farm where I help out part time.

Q: Where did you get your college degree?

A: My undergraduate degrees are from North Carolina State University in Agricultural Business Management and Agriculture & Environmental Technology. I received my Masters in Business Administration at Campbell University (N.C.).

Q: How did you get into the rural property business?

A: Having grown up in a farm family, I realized in high school that I wanted to pursue a career in a farm-related industry. During my senior year of college, I interned for AgCarolina Farm Credit. As part of the internship, I was able to spend time with the appraisal department, which I found really intriguing. After my internship, AgCarolina offered me a position, and I have enjoyed the past 10 years working as an appraiser for Farm Credit.

Q: Who was the most influential person in your career?

A: My high school ag teacher, Dr. Jason Davis, was a huge advocate for FFA. About the time I graduated, he accepted a position as the State FFA coordinator on campus at N.C. State University. He reached out to me during my sophomore year in college about an internship with the NC FFA Association. This internship opened a number of doors for me, including introducing me to some of the loan officers at Farm Credit.

Q: What are some personal interests of yours?

A: Other than spending time with my wife, 5-year-old son, and 2-year-old daughter, I enjoy helping out on our family farm, a 6,400 head swine finishing operation. I also enjoy riding ATVs, riding the boat at the beach, tinkering in the shop, and finding good deals.

Carson is the Lead Appraiser for AgCarolina Farm Credit in eastern North Carolina. He is currently the Carolinas Virginias Chapter YPN Chair and is working on the completion of his ARA designation.
