Another View Of High Voltage Transmission Lines

The recently completed report “High Voltage Transmission Lines and Montana Real Estate Values” by James A. Chalmers, Ph.D. was carried out under contract to Northwestern Energy (NWE) during 2010 and 2011. Northwestern Energy is proposing to construct a 500 kV High Voltage Transmission Line (HVTL) from Townsend, Montana southerly some 450-500 miles across southwestern Montana to near Twin Falls, Idaho to deliver Montana-generated power to possible users in the western US. This proposed line is identified as the Mountain States Transmission Intertie line (MSTI). The Chalmers report was commissioned by NWE to be used to study the effects of HVTL on real estate values as an aid in the process of planning, permitting, and siting the proposed MSTI power line. Texas A&M Chief Economist to Highlight Session at Annual Meeting
Dr. Mark Dotzour, Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M, will be part of the US Land Values session at the ASFMRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis this Fall. Review Appraisal Training for Non-Appraisers
ASFMRA has a new series of appraisal training courses targeted toward the non-appraiser reviewers in the banking industry. Passage of the Dodd/Frank Act (Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act) in late 2010 set forth a requirement for banks to train personnel to review appraisals. Most of the bank personnel performing the reviews will be non-licensed appraisers and will be performing Administrative Reviews versus Technical Reviews. Bank examiners are scrutinizing the appraisal review function in much greater depth than in the past and it is becoming very important for lenders to have solid internal appraisal review processes.
ASFMRA has the oldest and most highly revered appraisal review designation in the profession —Real Property Review Appraiser (RPRA). ASFMRA is creating a five day series of courses and case studies that will provide bank reviewers with the tools they need to perform administrative reviews on appraisals of the most common property types financed at their institutions. Each seminar will have an exam. Upon completion of the series, participants will earn a certificate of completion. It is becoming increasingly important for banks to demonstrate to examiners that employees in the appraisal review function have a basic understanding of USPAP and demonstrate competence in administrative appraisal reviews. An electronic brochure pertaining to the appraisal review seminars is being developed at the Denver office and will be forwarded to ASFMRA members in the near future. Mentioning this series of seminars to your banking customers allows you to be a positive resource for your banking clients.

After being a stay-at-home mom for eight years she started working as an Administrative Assistant for a real estate company then as a bookkeeper at a local elementary school. She recently worked for the Presbytery of Denver as a Business and Property Manager. Meg grew up in north central Indiana where her family still resides.
