Response to “Another View of High Voltage Transmission Lines”

High Voltage Transmission Lines and Montana Real Estate Values: Final Report (the “Chalmers Study”) was presented at a public forum at Montana Tech in Butte on April 17 of this year. This report is available online through MSU Extension at . Presentation of the study was followed by comments from a panel of real estate professionals including Mr. Kevin Pearce, ARA of Twin Bridges. Mr. Pearce made comments at that time which he followed up with a letter that was published in ASFMRA Ag News on May 15, 2012 and later in two southwestern Montana newspapers. Meetings to update California growers on groundwater program

The East San Joaquin Water Quality Coalition (ESJWQC) has scheduled three meetings to update its members and local growers about new proposed regulations covering groundwater and nitrates.  Attending each meeting will be Regional Water Board staff who will describe new requirements expected to be adopted in October 2012.

As new fears over a euro-zone crisis rose this year, investors rushed to buy the U.S. dollar in search of relative safety versus whatever calamity may eventually occur in Europe and a rush to exit euro-based investments. While the U.S. economy is weak and the federal financial situation is a mess, the U.S. is still considered the “prettiest house in a bad neighborhood” compared to the uncertainty of Europe.

CA Chapter Offers Education for Managers and Consultants

The California Chapter will offer two days of Management Education June 28 & 29 in Fresno. The interactive training sessions are made up of education modules selected from the ASFMRA Ag Land Management program and are geared toward topics and skills used in day to day business. Project Management, Professionalism, Effective Negotiating, Budgeting, Principles of Leasing and Business Contracts are among the modules being presented. The Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) is moving forward with its work plan to examine potential revisions for the 2014-15 edition of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). 
Among other potential revisions to USPAP, the Board continues to examine changes necessary to address Communication and Reporting, Reporting Options, Retirement of STANDARDS 4 and 5, as well as other revisions and additions as needed to ensure clarity and relevance.
The Board intends to publish the First Exposure Draft of proposed revisions to the 2014-15 edition of USPAP prior to the end of May 2012, and will be accepting written comments through June 29, 2012.  In addition, the Board will be accepting oral comments at this public meeting.

Solicitation for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)

The Appraisal Practices Board (APB) has issued the following Solicitation for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assist in the research and development of voluntary guidance on Valuing Contingent Consideration.
The SME panel chosen to address this topic will accomplish its goal by, at a minimum, gathering, citing and researching all existing literature and publications.
